If you post the 'Engine' serial number I can give you a rough idea of the age of the tractor, assuming the engine is original.

The WDs used either GA or PA as a suffix to designate gasoline engines. The WD-45s used a G to designate Gasoline; however the WD-45 engine serial numbers begin with '45' rather than 'WD'. Because yours starts with only 'W', I'm wondering whether its a WC engine.

There are casting dates on the intermediate castings of the rear end. Intermediate casting is between the differential and the final drive casting- one that has the wheel on it. Since they are identical castings...the casting date is on the front side of the right intermediate casting, and on the rear side of the left one. This WD shows 9-29-49 on the left side, and 8-30-49 on the right side. Casting dates give you an idea, but do not determine the production date- the date the tractor left the assembly line. Considering the immense, immediate popularity of the WD, it does give a good indication of the year of production, between 1948 and Spring of 1953, when the WD45 came out, at sn 146007.

The WC tractor engines have the W prefix only. So........Your engine appears to be a WC gas engine. Not to worry; very little difference, if any, between a WD block and one from a WC.

I've never seen a like list for the WCs, tho.

I think I was the source of the correlation list you mentioned - and I do have a list for WC's - but not as much data - but range I've seen for 1945 WC engines goes from W144xxx to W154xxx and I own 2 WCs s/n WC144378 with motor W153952K and WC144380 with motor W153950K. But as to placement of S/N on early WD, look at top of axle at left brake cover - I've seen there and in one case stamped under edge of brake cover so you had to remove cover to see it. best, Ed
