How To Install Mods In Oblivion

Elder Scrolls series

OBMM - Oblivion Mods Manager, mod management utility and much more Install Order - this has nothing to do with load order, but is the order in which mods should be installed TESCS - The Elderscrolls Construction Set, a mod (really plugin) editing and making utility. Oblivion Graphics Extender. Another mod you’ll want if you’re looking for the prettiest Oblivion mods can make. The graphics extender mod does a great job of effectively overhauling the visual element of the game, at least from a technical standpoint. Improved textures, better lighting and shadows, character models, and more.

I went to the website, and there is a lot there! Does anyone know if there is a tutorial, or something available that will show me how to properly install the OBSE and Reloaded (updated graphics) mods correctly?
Thank you.

Will be done when adding CS to the build... unless Galaxy install somehow always messes up timestamps :/
Should be resolved by Monday.

Should be resolved by Monday. The .esp files of the expansions seem to have the same problem, resulting in a crash when installing the unofficial patches.

I don't know how much more difficult this makes handling the load order. Maybe this is worth fixing as well. :)

Elder Scrolls series

I'm going to assume that anyone using this guide is somewhat competent with a computer, knows where their steam game folders are, has WinRar or 7zip, has Oblivion installed, and can follow basic pattern recognition. (An example of pattern recognition skills is using this guide for the Fallout games that use .omod files or using Skyrim guides for Oblivion.)

How To Install Mods Oblivion Mac

Firstly if you don't have Mod Organizer installed you should do that. Here is the Nexus page for Mod Organizer. The version on the Skyrim Nexus is most up to date, you shouldn't use the version in the Oblivion Nexus. You'll need to install it in the Oblivion game folder. If you're using Mod Organizer for more than one game you need to install it once for each game into their respective Steam game folders. You can use this Skyrim guide, but installation should be very straight forward. Those guides are also nice for LOOT, TES5Edit (TES4Edit), and Wrye Bash which are all pretty useful things.

Now you're going to want to also install Oblivion Mod Manager from Nexus and install it in the Oblivion game folder. This will place a .exe file in the Oblivion folder. As always with Mod Organizer, we'll be running Oblivion Mod Manager from the Mod Organizer panel. Click on the drop-down menu on the top right of Mod Organizer, click '<Edit...>', set the Title to 'Oblivion Mod Manager', and for Binary search for the 'OblivionModManager.exe' in you Oblivion game folder (the .exe extention might not be visible depending on your Windows settings). Leave everything else blank and unchecked and click Add. From now in the only times you'll be using Oblivion Mod Manager is from Mod Organizer.

Ok, now for the fun part. Download any mods like normal with Download with Manager and it'll be sent to Mod Organizer. Whenever you double click the downloaded mod in Mod Organizer you'll get a popup as usual. If it's a mod with a .esp file or textures and meshes, stuff we're all used to, it'll either give you a Quick Install meaning it's ready to go or the Manual Install screen where you have to right click the 'Data' folder and 'Set data directory'.

If the mod you downloaded has a .omod file instead of the .esp files then when you double click the download all you get is the Manual Install screen with nothing but a .omod file in there. What we'll have to do is use Oblivion Mod Manager to essentially unzip it and build our own 'Data' folder for the mod.

How To Install Mods On Oblivion Ps3

  1. Once you spot a .omod file, Close the Manual Install screen.

  2. Go to your Oblivion game folder. Go to OblivionMod Organizerdownloads and find the .zip file of the mod you want to install. (If you downloaded it manually, go to where ever it was downloaded to).

  3. Open it with WinRar or 7zip. You'll see the .omod file inside.

  4. Right click on the .omod file and extract it to your desktop.

  5. Click on Oblivion Mod Manager in the drop-down menu on the top right of the Mod Organizer screen. Hit run.

  6. Click 'Load' on the bottom of the Oblivion Mod Manager.

  7. Navigate to the Desktop and select the .omod file. Open. You'll see it loaded a green or red square with the new mods name next to it in the area on the right.

  8. Right click on that and choose 'Extract to folder' and choose the Desktop again. You'll get a popup to create omod conversion information, click 'No' (if you click 'Yes' accidentally it's not a big deal). Wait for it to unzip and click 'Ok' when done.

  9. Go back to the new mod next to the green or red square on Oblivion Mod Manager, right click, delete. Keep things clean. Close Oblivion Mod Manager.

  10. Go to your Desktop. Open the new folder that was just created. It should have the new mods name.

  11. Inside that make a new folder and call it 'Data'. Drag everything else in there into the Data folder. (If you're trying to install multiple mods, such as Qarls visual mod, you can actually merge them all into one Data folder right now if you like.)

  12. Open up WinRar or 7zip, navigate to the Desktop. Right click on the Folder we were just working on, the one that should have the name of the mod, and zip it. You should be able to right click it and select Add to Archive. Choose .zip format and hit 'Ok'. Close the WinRar/7zip window.

  13. Go to Mod Organizer. Click on the Install a new mod from an archive button on the top left. Navigate to your Desktop. Choose the .zip file we just made. Open.

  14. If you get the Quick Install menu choose Manual just to be safe.

  15. Expand the folders until you see the 'Data' folder. Right click it and choose 'Set data directory' and Click 'Ok'.

  16. Mod is now installed. Double click it, go to Nexus info, and update the Mod ID and version number to whatever it says on the Nexus page (Mod ID is the number at the end of the URL). This will make it so you know when a new update is available. You may also add check-marks in the Categories section for better organizing.

  17. You can now delete any folders and files you may have created on the Desktop. If you want to keep the zip file you can always send it to the OblivionMod Organizerdownloads folder and replace the old one with the .omod file in it.

  18. Don't forget to set the pull-down menu on Mod Organizer back to Oblivion.

Well that should be it. I hope this is easy to follow. Let me know if any steps are unclear or if you spotted some mistakes or silly grammar and I will revise them. Thank you for reading.

Edit: spelling.
