Univox Guitars Serial Numbers
Univox Bass- Yes, here's the RARE Rickenbacker Rip-Off. One of the first of a 2-3 year run. This 1974 Univox was a Made in Japan copy of the Rickenbacker 4001 Bass. It was so closely copied that yes they were sued.
Thought I'd share a little pic of my favorite guitar for everyone. Picked up this beaut about two years ago. Couldn't gather too much info on it, but these are apparently pretty rare. I've heard that only about 500 were made back in the mid-70s. From the legendary Matsumoku factory in Japan, she features a 3-stage humbucker system and some unbelievable tone. Bright and crisp on the clean channel at the neck pickup, and can get very down and dirty at the bridge without getting muddy. I really love the versatility and the unique style. If you have a chance to get your hands on one of these, I highly suggest you do.
Rare UNIVOX Strat copy Electric to commemorate the USA Bicentennial in 1976 and partially in 1977. 'As Found', right out of an Ohio Estate. Never shown before. Untouched...I have not put a drop of polish on this Guitar....it's just like I took it out of the Case...100% Original condition. Plays Great. Good String Action. Original shaped UNIVOX Hard Shell Case.
Great Guitar !! Well-made !! Beautiful carved Eagle Head, etc in the Walnut finish solid Body. Maple Neck. Black clay-type Dots. Jumbo Frets. Three Humbucker style Pickups. Three-ply white-black-white Pickguard with no cracks or scratches. The Original Whammy Bar is included (shown in some of the pics)... Mirrored original 'U' Logo on the Neckplate which is marked JAPAN and has the Serial Number: 139290. The original covered Tuning Gears work Great. The Access Plate on the back is perfect. The Screws look untouched.
This Guitar was manufactured in the Matsumoko Factory during what is considered the Golden Age of of Japan-made copies of USA Guitars. 'The Lawsuit Era'. Only a few of these Carved Eagles were made and when one rarely surfaces, they tend to bring a pretty good price. My last pic shows a copy of a Flyer Ad for the Univox Eagle in 1976. I took that pic off my monitor...it is Not included in the Auction...
On the site Electric Guitar Category 2356 (page 16), a Univox Eagle is listed as selling for $1,500......eBay Auction #260743301962 lists an Eagle at $1,699...it received one Offer..../ site gives some Eagle Guitar info....theres's lots more info if you search it out......there's just none of these Guitars for sale out there, except mine here.....
****The Guitar is in Fine all-original condition. On the back there is one small section of 'belt-buckling' to the finish. It is apprx. 2-1/4' x 1-1/2'...a small contained spot.... Other than that, the condition is really nice....It doesn't even need cleaned or polished-up unless desired. It displays Great !!! Beautiful Carving !!...That Eagle has a menacing look on it's face !!
